J023            There should have been three of us

This chap was looking out of his lounge window onto the road outside.  He saw two blondes working in Council uniform.  The taller girl was digging small but deep holes at the side of the road, and as she finished one hole and moved on to the next the shorter girl came along behind and filled it in tamping down the earth with her foot.  This went on for a while with the onlooker getting more and more puzzled.  He couldn't contain himself any longer so he had to go outside and ask the taller girl exactly what they were doing.

"It's like this said the blonde.  We should have been a team of three but Pauline rang in sick this morning and the boss told us to manage as best we could with just the two of us".  The chap by now was thoroughly perplexed, so he asked what Pauline would have been doing.

"Oh!  She's the one that takes the trees off the lorry and puts them in the hole!"
