AHH                          A bit overweight

New scientist Special Edition dated 2 October 2004 had a brief report on page 12 about a patient named Patrick Deuel  who was admitted to a South Dakota hospital weighing 486 kilograms.  I have heard of overweight Americans, but a few simple calculations suggest this chap has gone in for a world record.

486kg =  486 x 2.2 pounds avoirdupois  = 1069.2 lbs

Divide by 112 gives his weight in hundredweights = 9.546cwt = 0.477 ton

In the more common unit of bodily weight in the UK, = 76.37 stone

You know that the Campbells tried to massacre the Macdonalds in 1692 at a place called Glen Coe.  But like Hitler with the Jews, we didn't succeed, so my lot are partly to blame for Mr Deuel's problem.

My ancestors got wind of the fast food chain to be set up three hundred years later, and tried to stop it.  I hope that the same sort of problems are not found with our soup.
