AGZ Haemorrhoids (Piles) 10 July 2007
This malady of the human race causes a lot
of inconvenience and discomfort. It is a malady that afflicts both sexes.
But while I still had private medical cover from Plessey, I had a consultation
with a urinary surgeon at the New Victoria Hospital in New Malden, Surrey.
When the consultation was over, Mr Jarret told me to report to the Admissions
Sister about getting a date to carry out the surgery. I went along and saw
the woman and asked for a date as soon as possible.
"Do you want to come in tomorrow?" I was asked.
"Can you make it a little later as I have an appointment tomorrow that I don't
want to miss."
"Name a date" she said.
"Can I have it the day after tomorrow?"
"Of course." and she entered my name in a book on the table in front of her.
I've always reckoned that the NHS is THE BEST when it comes to medical treatment, but you generally have to wait, sometimes quite a long time.
I went into the hospital and had the chop-chop carried out and was sore for a bit over a week. I had odd bits of string hanging from my backside for a while longer. But when I healed up and the bits of string had dropped off, I was as good as new. That was in May 1992 and I am still free of any hanging bits and pieces of either sort.
It was a full anaesthetic so I knew nothing about the surgery. Whether is is ever done using a local anaesthetic, I know not.
