AGP A new phonetic alphabet 6 Jan 2007
World War One had a phonetic alphabet. It started as Ack, Beer, Charlie, Don, and I don't know the rest. "Ack" has gone down in history with the use of "ack ack" for anti-aircraft fire, and "don" with "don three" and "don eight" as types of telephone cable that can be used for everything from connecting two field telephones together, to use as a tow-line for and army lorry.
World War Two came along followed by NATO. It was decided that a better set of phonetics should be used. If my my memory is correct, Able, Baker, Charlie, Dog were followed by Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta.
Now we are being threatened by environmental
disaster, we need a new set of phonetics. I have thought up a suitable set
of words for this next move into the future. What about:
Abomination, Bloodbath, Confusion, Destruction, Eruption, Fatalism, Godforsaken,
Horrendousness, Inferno, Juggernaut, Kleptomania, Lightning, Monsters, Nemesis,
Obscene, Paralysis, Quagmire, Repulsion, Shambles, Tumult, Uncertainty,
Vanquished, Whirlwind, Xenophobia, Yokel, Zombie.
If you have a better set, let me have them.
