AGC A bouquet for the Council AM Fri 17 Nov 2006
I have been very critical of the Council in the past; just look at some of my other essays on this subject. But to be honest (and I often try to be) I have just sent the transport department an email congratulating them on the new bus service to and from Wollaton Park.
The two local Lib Dem Councillors, aided by Trina Marshall (the vice chairman of the local residents' association), did quite a bit of the 'pressurising', and it has paid off . This estate has quite a lot of elderly residents (that includes me) and getting into the City Centre was either a taxi ride (a fiver each way) or a long walk to the Ring Road to catch a bus.
According to the timetable. the bus goes round the estate and one can either hail the bus or call a freephone number to arrange for it to stop at a particular point.
What more can one ask?
There is one puzzle that I won't bother to investigate. The Victoria Centre is annotated "V2" on the map. Being a Londoner, a V2 to me was a Gerry rocket that arrived with a very loud bang in 1945. Being in the army then, I missed the V2s but clearly remember the V1 doodlebugs. They were engaging little beasts. See my page AGD
