AEH Why can't we be nasty to foreigners? Updated on Fri 19 January 2007
It's been an English pastime for centuries, so why do the PC crowd now have to start objecting? In fact a large part of the English language is devoted to rude words for foreigners, so to remove this right is pulling us down to the level of the foreigners we abuse.
Flanders & Swann epitomised the way the English look at the rest of the world. One phrase comes to mind "It's just being foreign that makes them so mad"

a Yank
a person from the USA (and remember that America is a continent not a country.
The USA is the only
country I know that doesn't seem to have a proper name for
its citizens. The proper name for the
USA is "The United States of
America". They are that big-headed that they think they own the
continent,
hence their name for themselves
a Japanese a Nip (from
Nippon)
a Russian a
Ruskie
The above list was before I consulted (not insulted) an American friend.
Yes, I consider him to be a friend although he did suggest "Slimy Brits".
But the European s refer to us as 'Perfidious Albion'. Americans, it
seems, has as many rude names as we do. Any advance on :
