ACG                                A Remington Razor            10 September 2008

A little while back I took up a Daily Telegraph sales offer.  The item is supposed to be a bit cheaper than you would otherwise pay.  I have used this scheme before and been quite satisfied.  This time it was a Remington MS3 2700 "washable" razor.  I've used electric razors for years and at the moment have three.  This razor was probably a little cheaper than I would have paid in the High Street.  It has a very nice soft "leather" case as well.

But it just doesn't shave me nearly as well as the clapped-out Philishave I have, and I think I know why.  The Philishave has three rotary cutters below three individual foils.  The slots in these foils are small, but not extremely small.  They allow the hairs of my beard to poke through as I move it across my face  The Remington has a vibrating set of cutters below an extremely fine foil.  There are three foils and three vibrating cutters.  But the foil has tiny holes in it rather than slots, and i think that is the reason for the inordinate time it takes me to shave with this razor.  Moving the razor across my face should allow the hairs of my beard to poke through the holes and be chopped off by the vibrating cutter.

The time it takes to shave with this razor not only becomes boring, it starts to make my face sore.  I did consider sending the thing back but looked a bit closer at the wording of the booklet that came with the razor.  "Total Closeness" -- Or Your Money Back".  I reasoned that this was one of the advertising scams that i refer to elsewhere on this blog.  A Court of Law would probably rule that the wording was "advertising puff".  In other words "meaningless bilge".

So Remington is on my blacklist now.  I still use my old Philishave, and will keep the Remington as an emergency machine.  The rechargeable cells last longer than I would have expected.  In the old Philishave I have replaced the cutters twice and the rechargeable cells once
