ABH                     Cleaning paint brushes

It is an unfortunate facet of DIY that many paintbrushes are allowed to go hard with uncleaned paint.  There are proprietary materials to soften the paint from the hairs; this method works fairly well, but takes a long time.  There is a quicker way.

A very small quantity of paint-stripper in a tin or jar will work much faster.  Dunk and screw the hardened brush in the stripper, but don't don't leave the brush in the stripper as it will probably dissolve the hairs.  As soon as the hairs are flexible, thoroughly wash them under a running tap using the fingers to dislodge the gooey gung.  If your skin is at all delicate, it is probably not a good idea to use bare hands, try using a wire brush instead while the water flows over the hairs.  Then clean and dry the wire brush thoroughly to stop the wires from rusting.  If necessary, repeat the procedure, but take note that water seems to nullify the effects of the paint-stripper spirit.
